Preview Build Highlights
Run custom actions during feature update. In RS4, we are adding a new feature that will enable enterprise customers to run their own custom actions/scripts synchronously with setup. Setup also migrates the scripts for future updates.
Run post rollback scripts in system context. For enterprise users without admin privileges, we are enabling /postrollback scripts to run in system context as well as the current admin context.
Windows containers. We are flighting the matching Windows container images of Server Core and Nano Server to the Docker Hub for continued testing and feedback.
New features for Windows 10 Pro for Workstations. A new policy called Ultimate Performance eliminates micro-latencies associated with fine grained power management techniques. Additionally, we have replaced out-of-box consumer apps and games with productivity and enterprise focused applications.
Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) updates. We’ve added several improvements to WSL, including: easier configuration, communication between WSL and Windows applications over Unix sockets applications and better file handing. See the latest WSL release notes.
New Windows Hypervisor Platform API. We have added an extended user-mode API for third-party virtualization stacks and applications to create and manage partitions at the hypervisor level, configure memory mappings for the partition, and create and control execution of virtual processors. For further information, see Windows Hypervisor Platform.
Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) updates: You spoke, and we listened. Microsoft is bringing Windows Defender Application Guard to Windows 10 Professional in the next feature update of Windows 10. For more details please see our tech community page. Plus, for quick access from the context menu, simply right click on the Windows Defender icon in the notification area.
New features for IT Pros in Delivery Optimization. We’ve added multiple policies (both Group Policies and MDM Policies) that provide Admins with means to throttle bandwidth at certain times of day (for both foreground and background traffic). We’ve also added new peer selection policies to address feedback from customers who are using AAD and Modern Management (Intune, WUfB) and needed more options to automatically group peers in each site they manage. To view the list of new configs, open the GP Editor and checkout the new policies under Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Delivery Optimization.
A new registry process for more efficient memory usage. We’ve added a new process in Task Manager to hold registry hive data. Storing hive data in the registry process gives the registry access to more powerful memory management capabilities which will allow us to reduce the registry’s memory usage in the future.
